Parent Meeting – June 16 at 7pm
Mark your calendars for a pack wide parent meeting on June 16 at 7pm via Zoom. As restrictions ease, there may be opportunities for events this summer. We invite all parents to join us as we share potential plans for summer events as well as tentative plans for fall meetings and fundraising. The meeting will be held on Zoom.
Pack Camp In – Saturday, June 20
Plans are in the works for a Pack Camp In via Zoom! Pitch your tent and get ready for some fun! Events will include guest speakers, some hands on activities and a campfire. If you would like to lead an activity, know a great guest speaker or lead in campfire fun, please contact Stephanie. More information and Zoom Invitations to Follow.
Youth Protection Program
Scouting leaders need to take the online Youth Protection Program (YPP) classes as a requirement for our pack registration. Many leaders may have received a reminder to update your YPP before fall pack registration is complete. These classes are beneficial and we encourage all parents, not just those with a den our pack leadership position to participate. Following the guidance by the Contra Costa Healthy Department of avoiding large gatherings, the following pack events scheduled in the coming weeks will be cancelled or postponed.
Cancellation of March Pack Meeting
The March Pack Meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 19 will be cancelled. The Arrow of Light bridging ceremony, which was the program for the evening, will be rescheduled to the April 23 Pack Meeting. 11 scouts have completed their Arrow of Light requirements and will bridging and we look forward to celebrating this awesome accomplishment!
Postponement & Rescheduling of Monterey Bay Aquarium Overnighter
The Monterey Bay Aquarium Overnighter scheduled for April 4-5 will be postponed to a later date. Sara Carlson will be sending out more information on the options for rescheduling.
We will assess pack events scheduled for later in April as we get closer to the scheduled dates. We are hopeful that the April Pack Meeting (4/23) and the Brannan Island Camping Trip (4/25-26) will be held next month.
Palmer Pack 215
Pack Meeting Thursday, January 16th @ 7pm in the Auditorium
Boy Scout Troop 302 will be leading our meeting this month. They have some fun activities planned! Come for information on Pinewood Derby week. Patches will also be distributed for those that participated in the Toy Drive and Scouting for Food.
Pinewood Derby Clinic Saturday 1/11 @ 9am – 12pm
The clinic is open rain or shine! Hot cocoa & doughnuts will be served plus we have saws, sanders, patterns and pack experts to help you work on your car.
Pinewood Derby is zooming toward us! Some important dates to remember:
January 22nd – Pinewood Car weigh-in @ 3:30-6pm
January 24th – Parent/Sibling Race @6pm. Pizza & Drinks!
January 25th – Official 2020 Cub Scout Pinewood Derby @ 9am. Doughnuts, Cocoa, and Coffee!
We are in need of parent volunteers to help us out with some of the tasks necessary to pull this off. Save the Date! Blue & Gold Dinner Friday, February 21 at 6pm
The Blue & Gold Dinner is a pack tradition to celebrate the founding of BSA. The whole family is invited to attend. More information on this event will be provided next month.

Who wants some pie?! The top popcorn sellers will be announced and given the chance to put a pie in the face of a willing participant. We also have a knot tying demonstration and a very special guest with her Search and Rescue dog. Pinewood derby cars will be available for those who haven’t received one yet.

Scout Registration & Dues – This month
Each year, Pack 215 needs to register and recharter with the Boy Scout Council. To successfully complete our 2019 recharter, we need the participation of the entire pack. Registration and Dues are required to be submitted this month. Scouts that were not active last year will need to fill out a registration form which can be picked up in the Palmer office. Pack 215 Annual Toy Drive
Please help us continue our tradition, and have your scouts help us with our annual Palmer Pack 215 Toy Drive! There will be a box in the Palmer office for your unwrapped, donated gifts. All toy drive donations need to be in the office no later than FRI DEC 13th.
Please be sure to mark your donation with your scout’s name so that your scout will receive a “Toy Drive” patch. The TOY DRIVE will donate to Toys for Tots, which is a foundation run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, that collects new unwrapped toys and gives them to less fortunate children as Christmas gifts.

We have some very unusual guests at our meeting this month. The East Bay Vivarium will give a presentation with some of their reptile friends! Also, updates on other pack events particularly our annual fundraiser: Popcorn Sales! Pack meetings are a family event and the whole family is welcome to attend!
Thank you to everyone for selling popcorn for the pack! Popcorn sales are in their final weeks. Here is some important information and action items for popcorn sales:
- If your scout has done any wagon sales, please go into the Trails-End App and ensure your wagon sales are marked as “not delivered”. This is very important to make sure your sales are captured. Here is the video showing how to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJYopyUO8Jo.
- All Scout sales must be in the Trails-End App by 10/21 at 5pm to count for prizes.
- Popcorn will be available for you to deliver to your buyers in mid November (around the 16th). Distribution date, time and place will be confirmed closer to the pick up date.

Palmer Pack 215 Annual Pumpkin Carving:
Friday, October 25 @ 6pm in the Palmer Auditorium
Calling all scouts and their families! Let’s all gather together and enjoy an evening of pizza and pumpkin carving! This is a BYOP event (BRING YOUR OWN PUMPKIN!)!! We have tools to share, so the only thing you need to bring is your pumpkin and your creativity!! Prizes will be given for some of the more creative pumpkins! Pizza, dessert and drinks will be provided. Siblings are always welcome! Please let us know how many kids and adults in each family will be coming so we know how much pizza, etc to order! Pack Meeting: Thursday, November 14 @ 7pm in Palmer Auditorium
Join us for a fun evening. Boy Scout Troop 818 will be our guests and will lead our scouts in skills such as knot tying. At the end of the meeting, Pinewood Derby cars will be distributed. The first Pinewood Derby clinic will be Saturday, December 7 from 9 am – noon in the Palmer auditorium. Power tools, advice and design ideas will be available to start building cars for the big race in January.
Scouting for Food: Saturday, November 9 and 16 @ 9 am – Larkey Park Swim Center
It is time again for the annual Scouting for Food event in which Pack 215 has participated for many years. The Scouting for Food collection is a fun event for scouts and families and a way we can show that Scouts care for their community and for those who are less fortunate. November 9 is door tag hanging and November 16 is food pick up. Pack 215 is covering the area around Larkey Park and we will meet at the Swim Center on the 2700 block of Larkey Avenue. Scouts should come in their full uniform. Anyone with a truck or large SUV that can attend on November 16 and take food to the food bank is greatly appreciated! Evites for the events are as follows:

HIKE UPDATE! (Mark your calendars): Now that the winds and fire threat has died down, we are rescheduling the cancelled Castlerock hike to November 17th at 1:30pm. Pack 215 Night at the Warriors: Sunday, February 23 @ 5:30pm
Please join us at Pack 215 Scout Night at the Warriors! Warriors vs New Orleans Pelicans! Tickets are $110 each, and are located at Club 200 Sideline (are are better seats than last year!) We have 90 tickets on hold, so tickets are available on a first come/first served basis. Parent & Leadership Meeting:
Tuesday, September 10 at 7pm in Palmer Library
The pack leadership and den leaders meet monthly to plan the pack events and keep up to date on den activities. All parents are invited to attend the meeting on September 10. We are still looking for some key volunteers to help with events and programs. Training and support will be provided. Parents of Kindergartners and 1st graders that did not participate in scouts last year, please join us as well to learn about cub scouts for boys and girls at Palmer.

Our first pack meeting of the year is going to be fun! We will spend time on our annual fundraiser: Popcorn Sales! This is the opportunity to get the details on the program. We also will have some awesome guests: The Mount Diablo Amateur Radio Club will be joining us to give a hands on HAM radio presentation. Remember, pack meetings are a family event and the whole family is welcome to attend! Any Kindergarten and new 1st grade families are welcome to attend as well.
